Brandon Barnts loves all things audio. After studying audio engineering and music composition at Greenville College, he moved to Los Angeles to begin a career in film scoring. In addition to composing for film and television, he also recorded and mixed all of his own music. His reputation for quality production value landed him the position of production mixer for the first HD feature shot in Hollywood.

After location recording for several productions, Brandon decided to try his hand at post-production audio. It was a natural fit. His education and film scoring experience had given him an excellent understanding of the creative and technical requirements of post audio. He enjoyed the creativity and challenge of designing and layering audio textures to paint a film "canvas" with sound. In 2001, Brandon started Sonic Paint in Burbank with a focus on post-production audio for independent films.

Brandon is one of a new generation of sound designers whose versatility encompasses the full spectrum of sound for film. He supervises the sound from start to finish, including recording, editing, and mixing. Since he can follow a project through the entire sound process, he provides continuity and efficiency for the filmmaker.

Brandon's passion about the sound elements of a film infuses everything he does, from the "in your face" custom effects for a sci-fi picture to the subtleties of raindrops on a greenhouse roof. Just ask him about the latest scene he completed and watch his face light up as he explains all of the individual elements that went into creating the sonic landscape.

This creativity and commitment to quality extends to every facet of the work. Because the Sonic Paint studio is primarily software based, it is flexible and adaptable to a variety of purposes. Even when budgets are small, Brandon takes advantage of that flexibility to create the best sound possible. For one film without the budget for a Foley stage, he utilized a laptop computer to record footsteps in sync to picture on location. This kind of innovative thinking enables him to create a sound that is perfectly matched to the needs of every project.

Although intensely dedicated to quality, Brandon also exudes calm. His passion is tempered by an easy-going manner that makes everyone who walks in the doors of Sonic Paint feel at home.
