Bruce
B. Mathews was born and raised in Los Angeles, California in 1955.
Mr. Mathews received a California State Scholarship, obtained a
Ruby Ring in the National Forensic Association for Dramatic Interpretation
and was voted Most Likely to Succeed. Bruce attended Immaculate
Heart College in Hollywood and received his Bachelor in Fine Arts
from the University of California, Riverside, graduating from the
MFA program as an undergraduate.
Mr.
Mathews has studied the acting methods of Gratowski, Bolislavski,
Stanislavski and Classical techniques from such renowned instructors
as Thurston James, William Shepard, Dr. Richard P. Brown, Dr. Monroe
Lippman, Dr. Richard Risso, and Dr. Jules Aaron. He also studied
with Richard Pascoe, Patrick Stewart and five other members of the
Royal Shakespeare Company for over a year.
Mr.
Mathews won the Inland Center Theater Guild award for Best Actor
in 1978. After a brief stint in New York, pounding the pavement,
Mr. Mathews returned to Los Angeles and became a member of American
Theater Arts in Hollywood. Mr. Mathews continued to perform in a
variety of character roles including, Martin Dysart in the play
Equus, Salieri in the play Amadeus, and Sgt. Rough in the play Angel
Street. He created the original character of Fall in the World Premiere
of Stefan Marks new play The Mirror and received critical acclaim
from Backstage West and the Los Angeles Times. In 2000, Mr. Mathews
directed, produced and acted in Shakespeare's Othello at the Stella
Adler theater in Hollywood and once again received critical acclaim
from the press.
Mr.
Mathews has appeared in several feature films, movie shorts and
TV series including: The Chosen Few (2000) where he played the lead
role of Master John Roper, a misguided cult leader. The film recently
won an Award of Excellence at the Berkeley Film Festival; The Young
and the Restless (2003); Snitch (2002), a new Pilot Series for the
FX channel where Mr. Mathews plays opposite Robert Patrick as a
member of the FBI; The Court starring Sally Fields and Dianne Carroll
and Family Law. Some of Mr. Mathews Short Film credits include Unlucky
Souls, a Director's reel promoting a concept for an X-Files episode,
Hollywood Monkeys (A-Z Productions,) a comic short which received awards at the Huston, Big Bear and Newport
Beach Film Festivals, OmniPotentum, a surreal short in which Mr.
Mathews played four different roles which recently placed 678 out
of 1123 entries at the Triggerstreet.com Internet Film Festival;
The White Room (EMP Productions,) A Common Bond, 3000
Miles (John David Harris). Mr. Mathews has worked with such directors
and actors as Chad Ahrendt (Laurence Mark Productions,) Steve Easton
(Field of Dreams, ConAir), Robert Patrick
(X-Files, Terminator II, etc.), Patrick Stewart (Star Trek, Moby
Dick, etc.) and Byrne
